The “Theory” of God

evolution

On the Finding Truth blog, in response to several previous postings related to the subject of evolution, someone who goes by the moniker of “justacowboyforchrist” wrote a fairly lengthy explanation of why he is convinced that God is the creator of life. His main point was that man has been unable to create any form of life “from nothing,” thus there has to be a “miraculous spirit Being” that did the work … even though he cannot prove this Being exists. His next statement puzzled me. He admits his belief is based on faith, or theory. Faith, yes. But theory?

The formal definition of theory is as follows:

A well-substantiated explanation of some aspect of the natural world; an organized system of accepted knowledge that applies in a variety of circumstances to explain a specific set of phenomena.

Outside of the Christian world, I would daresay few would agree that the existence of God is “well-substantiated.”

Of course, we know this Evolution or God discussion will go on forever with neither side being convinced (especially through blog postings). However, I do challenge those who believe that life emanated from a supernatural being to research the subject from a scientific perspective. It isn’t a matter of me trying to change your mind. It’s more that I believe every individual should be well-informed about what you believe … and why.
