Reblog: Vote like your life depends on it

I can add nothing. BUT … I do want to emphasize his last paragraph, so READ his post!

Ends and Beginnings

“Let’s say you’re at the airport and you see Mr. Walker and you say, ‘Hey, there’s Herschel Walker, Heisman winner, let’s have him fly the plane.’ You probably wouldn’t say that. You would want to know; does he know how to fly an airplane? Seems to me he is a celebrity who wants to be a politician and we’ve seen how that goes. Or let’s say you go to the hospital, and you say, ‘That Walker guy, he sure could tear it up at Sanford Stadium. Give him a scalpel.’ You wouldn’t say that. You’d ask — at least, I would — ‘Has he done surgery before?’” – Former President Barack Obama

“I wouldn’t let him fly the plane either. But I can promise you, if they see me and Barack Obama standing there, they’d probably pick me to fly the plane. My résumé against his résumé, I’ll put it…

  1. Thanks for re-blogging this. I read his original post and more, and was so impressed with how he thinks and expresses himself that I became a follower…..which was enough to make my day (though the day is still young). 😀

  2. I was struck by this quite: “I wouldn’t let him fly the plane either. But I can promise you, if they see me and Barack Obama standing there, they’d probably pick me to fly the plane. My résumé against his résumé, I’ll put it up any time of the day” – Herschel Walker

So let’s suppose that we have two people who want to fly a plane. Neither is particularly qualified for the job. Sometimes the best option is to look for somebody else and recognize that neither is qualified for a particular job.

In this case, as a United States senator, Mr Walker is probably one of the least competent people that I’ve ever seen get the Republican nod for the Senate. Just because somebody has (or had) one particular talent, in this case running with a football, doesn’t mean that those talents transfer to any other aspects of life. Walker is, in my opinion, completely incompetent to perform the job as a US senator, and the sitting senator (Mr Warnock) appears to be fully qualified to do the job.

The Republican part has turned into the party of sycophants for Trump, and the voters have embraced a culture of celebrity. Those who are willing to genuflect before Trump are given the [mob] boss approval.

I honestly fear for what your country will turn into if these MAGAt Republicans gain control of the House, the Senate, and state level offices. I think the risk of a coming civil war is very real, and it will absolutely destroy the country if it happens (just think of how many other countries would dump hundreds of billions of dollars into arming both sides, just to see the country fall apart.)

    • I understand … and agree. To a point. It’s those people who think “my vote doesn’t count” that allows individuals and laws to be put into place that affect ALL of us. Hopefully, by “nagging” at them enough, they will get off their butts and spend a few minutes at the polls. Hopefully.

      • I took an injured friend to vote (early) last week. She said she must vote to counter her hubby’s vote. But then she repeated what you just said. My son drove for hours to vote.
This is Texas. But I still vote because it is all I can do.
