Quotes

While recently sorting and discarding some old office files, I came across the following quotes that I had considered using in my book. Although they never ended up within its pages, I still think the messages they contain offer some food for thought. Do you agree?

Do not believe in anything simply because you have heard it. Do not believe in traditions because they have been handed down for many generations. Do not believe in anything because it is found written in your religious books. Do not believe in anything merely on the authority of your teachers and elders. But after observation and analysis, when you find that anything agrees with reason, and is conducive to the good and benefit of one and all, accept it and live up to it.Buddha

It is enough for me to contemplate the mystery of conscious life, perpetuating itself through all eternity to reflect upon the marvelous structure of the Universe; and to try humbly to comprehend even an infinitesimal part of the intelligence manifest in nature.Albert Einstein

But who prays for Satan? Who, in eighteen centuries, has had the common humanity to pray for the one sinner that needed it most?Mark Twain

Every day, people are straying away from church and going back to God.Lenny Bruce

We must question the story logic of having an all-knowing all-powerful God, who creates faulty Humans, and then blames them for his own mistakes.Gene Roddenberry

  1. Some wise words there (especially, in my opinion, the first and last quotes).
I too have an accumulation of old quotes which I saved to possibly use in future posts, but never have. I should probably take a cue from you and do a similar post on my blog (or would that be ‘poaching’?). 😉

  2. Not demeaning the others, but the Gene Roddenberry quote is one of my favourites. It is so typical of religious leaders, and moreso political leaders, to blame others for their mistakes. We all know Trump never made a mistake in his life, after he took his first breath as a newborn!

  3. These are all good. I love quotes and here is one I like.

“A journey is a person in itself; no two are alike. And all plans, safeguards, policing, and coercion are fruitless. We find that after years of struggle that we do not take a trip; a trip takes us.” –  John Steinbeck
