Watched the Republican Debate last night. Same old crap. But I did take note of a comment by Ben Carson … and wondered if anyone else who endured the event picked up on it.
The primary topic for this debate was terrorism and the safety of the U.S. At one point, the discussion turned to the nuclear danger from No. Korea. Carson said something to the effect that No. Korea was a poor country because all the money goes to the military while the people are starving.
Hmmm …
As a sidenote — does anyone besides me wonder why Clinton is the “front-runner” Democratic candidate? Perhaps because the media is giving little to no space to Bernie? Outside of social media, there has been minimal mention of him. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if there are hundreds of voters who don’t even know who he is, let alone what he stands for. Hopefully this will change as we get closer to the primaries.
Yeah. I caught that. And I agree. The media is giving all their attention to Heir Trump and Bernie’s hardly mentioned Typical media B.S.

Look at him – no one can imagine putting a man who looks like that into the White House. This isn’t me talking, it’s human nature – he could be the most brilliant man in the world, but he is highly unlikely to ever win the Oval office due to his age and appearance.

I suppose there is something to that. He’s a pretty emotional guy … and it shows when he talks. Not the calm, cool, and collected image that most perceive when they think of the POTUS.
Nonetheless, I DO like his POV … if only human nature would let us get past the other stuff.

At least Bernie looks human. Trump looks like a cross between an orangutan and a tribble from Star Trek, but it doesn’t stop his minions from following him or the media from hanging on his every word as if he were a deity. He’s also full of rage, hate, bigotry, and, most likely, methane. That such a “man” gets media attention and Sanders doesn’t is, to me, quite damning of the media and the voting public both.

How many of those ran during the movie/TV age? I give you the Nixon/Kennedy debates as a perfect example. One of the primary reasons Kennedy won, was because he was better looking than Nixon. I’m not saying it’s a good thing, just that it IS a thing!

Trump gets coverage because he provides controversial, inflammatory, sound bites. Sanders talks about Social Security, Citizens United, and ways to help the poor. Where’s the fun, or the quick sound bites, in that? Walls to keep Mexicans out, bombing the Middle East, and preventing Muslims from entering the country are simple, rage-filled, quick answers that provide 0% brain power to be understood. Thinking and reason are not what the voting public, or the media, is interested in. Quick, often violent, answers to complex issues is. That’s why Trump’s the media darling he is. It sure ain’t cause of his looks. The dude is friggin’ orange for god’s sake. He’s gross. If Sanders shouted the same garbage as Trump, he’d get the same coverage.

It really is a travesty, Jeff. I have been very distressed over it all. I read a quote by Stephen King the other day on FB, and he said that if Trump has done anything, it’s that he’s exposed the ugly underbelly of conservatives in America today.
Trump 2016 bumper stickers are on the majority of cars where I live. 😦 I’ve never been more ashamed to call myself an American than I am right now.

I don’t see Trump as destroying the Republican party. As Stephan King said, all Trump is doing is exposing the ugly underbelly that already existed long before he arrived on the scene. As one article states:
“Trump supporters are done with traditional politicians, who they feel have turned their back on their campaign promises to bring a conservative revolution to Washington. “They are venting their anger at a political party that consistently let them down and betrayed them.” http://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-35033747

Wow! This is quite the article. And boy-oh-boy does the writer nail it! I would NEVER buy tRump’s book, but the quotes from it are very telling.
From the very beginning — when people started talking about how tRump “tells it like it is” — I had a hunch how this whole scenario was going to play out. As the writer put it: “His victimhood-peddling allows him to disguise hate and prejudice as hope and justice for poor, anxious Americans.”
And there is NO WAY anyone is going to talk these people out of what they believe is the “true” situation of the U.S. today or the dreadful leadership of Obama via tRump’s analysis.
We can only trust the writer was correct in his prediction that it’s very unlikely tRump can win the general election.

Nan, thanks for reading the article. What is so disconcerting is simply the mouthpiece for close to half of Americans, and this, we should be very concerned about. Americans have become radicalized, and IMO, are dangerous to the security of our nation, the world, and democracy.

The whole thing was bizarre. My take-away “What the…” moment was Rubio whining that Obama and Clinton lead from behind, then in answering the very next question he said he’d (as president) would get the Arab nations to fight ISIS on the ground while the US directed them… from behind.

If the author is right, and I suspect he is, then Trump is not the one we should be worried about. It’s the radicalized Americans. Trump is riding the wave, giving them what they want. It’s a very dark time in America.

FYI – H. Res. 564 was just introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives to express the “sense of the House of Representatives that the symbols and traditions of Christmas should be protected for use by those who celebrate Christmas,” meaning that they should be free to be used on public ground in violation of the Constitution.
