Just read the following “guidelines for living in the 21st Century” on another blog. Seems to me if everybody followed them, there would be little need for the Bible or a “God” to tell us how to live.
1. Be open-minded and be willing to alter your beliefs with new evidence.
2. Strive to understand what is most likely to be true, not to believe what you wish to be true.
3. The scientific method is the most reliable way of understanding the natural world.
4. Every person has the right to control of their body.
5. God is not necessary to be a good person or to live a full and meaningful life.
6. Be mindful of the consequences of all your actions and recognize that you must take responsibility for them.
7. Treat others as you would want them to treat you, and can reasonably expect them to want to be treated. Think about their perspective.
8. We have the responsibility to consider others, including future generations.
9. There is no one right way to live.
10. Leave the world a better place than you found it.
P.S. This was the winning entry in a contest put on by Lex Bayer and John Figdo, co-authors of Atheist Mind, Humanist Heart: Rewriting the Ten Commandments for the Twenty-first Century (2014). The prize money was $10,000 and a team of 13 judges selected these 10 points.

Excellent guidelines. I like 2 and 7 best. But all are good. Far better than the bloody 10 commandments, I say.

No. 9 kinda throws out all the others wouldn’t ya say. After all, your ‘right’ way may be at the expense of your neighbors car, cow, wife, husband, whatever. Sound familiar?
EVERY MAN DID THAT WHICH WAS RIGHT IN HIS OWN EYES……. Nope, no one right way to live. Every body is right. Nothing is wrong. Ever. Hence, a mockery of the ten commandments.
Its always a perversion of the true. Always.
The ps. is somewhat laughable.
Btw, no. 2 dismisses atheism in 3 seconds flat.

BTW, there is not a person alive who can keep the ten commandments.

Sorry friend, any message not consistent with grace TODAY is another gospel.
Any man who lops off the head of another today, is running unsent, and is an embarrassment to anything close to truth.
Take another look at the ten commandments though, in contrast to your 10 suggestions, or guidelines. Kinda hard to improve on perfection.

As good as it is, the scientific method has its own limitations. For example, different scientists come up with different results from basically the same data. Worse, science cannot observe the totality of the Natural World which I define as all of Creation (including the Multi-verse). As a result, scientific theories always contain anomalies. That’s why science has endeavored to find the Theory of Everything (which is also unattainable under the circumstances).
