Changing Beliefs About Gay Marriage

It doesn’t matter what beliefs we hold … they are OUR beliefs and we have a RIGHT to those beliefs.

It is our RIGHT to believe anything we want about gay marriage, abortion, stem cell research, the Iraq war, gun control, God, Jesus, or any other issue.

It is also our RIGHT to disagree with others who hold opposite views from ours.

We even have the RIGHT to publicly protest beliefs that we don’t agree with.

BUT … we need to remember that we can NEVER force someone to change their beliefs.

The individuals who are protesting against California’s Prop 8 have the right to do so, but their chants and signs are not going to persuade anyone to begin supporting gay marriage if it is against their core beliefs.

The same holds true for those who march and hold graphic signs to protest against current abortion laws.

And protesting against someone’s religious beliefs by using online forums to post vitrolic and venomous comments accomplishes nothing.

Furthermore, damaging property (or even inflicting bodily harm) is the least effective way to sway another’s beliefs.

People believe as they do as a result of heredity and environment, plus life experiences. New beliefs happen because someone makes the choice to change their opinion about something. It is an action that is taken by the individual. It will never occur due to someone else applying force.

Sarah Palin Amps Up Her Political Career Aspirations

In her interview with CNN’s Wolf Blitzer, Sarah says she would “be honored to help President-elect Barack Obama in his new administration …”

What? Help a terrorist? Oh yeah. She did add ” … even if he did hang around with an ‘unrepentant domestic terrorist.'”

How things have changed.

It would seem Ms. Palin definitely has her eye on bigger things in the political world. But then, we knew that all along, didn’t we?

I guess the Governor of Alaska feels it’s time to get out of the helicopter, put aside her gun, and start hunting for something more challenging than wolves. She should find several varmints in Washington.

ADDENDUM: Excerpt from Larry King Interview on 11/12/08:

KING: As you look at yourself, think about it, are you — are you ready to run for the presidency? Is that something that would interest you?

PALIN: Again, I’m not going to close any doors of opportunity that perhaps are open out there in the future. Not having a crystal ball, I do not know what those opportunities will be. If I have to call an audible down the road here and circumstances change and the door is open for me to do so, it would be something that I would take that challenge on, that responsibility if I believe that it is in the nation’s best interests.

A rather ’roundabout’ answer, but it’s still pretty obvious that she’s ‘gunning’ for bigger and better opportunities in the political world … and you can bet she’s hoping the people that matter hear these interviews!

Go President Obama!

Well, the 2008 presidential elections are finally over and, in my opinion, the Best Man won.

There is one thing that bothers me, though. Everyone is making a big deal of the fact that we have elected an African-American to the presidency.

Let’s back up for a minute.

What we have done is chosen an AMERICAN to be our president — a man who just happens to be of African descent and who just happens to have a darker skin tone than some other Americans.

We simply cannot allow ourselves to get all hung up on Barack Obama’s ethnic background. Instead, we need to see him for what he is — a man who promises to take us to new places, who promises to provide us with new opportunities, who promises … well, let him speak for himself:

“This is our time: to put our people back to work and open doors of opportunity for our kids; to restore prosperity and promote the cause of peace; to reclaim the American Dream and reaffirm that fundamental truth – that out of many, we are one; that while we breathe, we hope, and where we are met with cynicism and doubt and those who tell us that we can’t, we will respond with that timeless creed that sums up the spirit of a people:

Yes We Can. Thank you, God bless you, and may God Bless the United States of America.”

GO PRESIDENT OBAMA!
